Sun City is a master-planned retirement community built in 1960. I’m fascinated by its California desert Mid-Century Modern architecture
and landscaping that hasn’t changed much since its creation, a novel aesthetic. Thank you for allowing me to share my musings.

Easter Island Ranch

An absolutely wonderful surreal landscape on Desert Hills Road! The sea of pea gravel is populated with a mix and match aesthetic of assorted yard art statues. A procession of resin tiki heads, giant cowboy boot planters, plastic owls, and bouquets of faux flowers frame the space, while a circular vignette features a hobo figure carrying a plastic US flag flanked by 2 dogs carrying baskets of flowers. You'll spot heraldic lions, an eagle, a parrot and a lounging fox among the dozens more of eclectic figures. The dynamic focal point are huge metal sculptures of rearing horses and dueling cowboys.
