Sun City is a master-planned retirement community built in 1960. I’m fascinated by its California desert Mid-Century Modern architecture
and landscaping that hasn’t changed much since its creation, a novel aesthetic. Thank you for allowing me to share my musings.

Oakland Raiders Football Fan House

Oakland Raiders Football Fan House
One of my favorites in Sun City! Owned by the self-proclaimed #1 fans, this amazing home is completely dedicated to the team. Not only is the house painted in black and white, but the entire property is done in this color scheme.

The yard is a sea of white gravel punctuated with triangular and circular designs of decorative black concrete edging filled with black lava rock. The dazzling front walkway is a curving checkerboard that makes you wanna hop your way to the door. A central planter bed features a “Go Raiders!” wishing well. Team logos appear on walls, the concrete driveway and gates. Taking it a little quirkier, black and white dinosaurs, lions and a monkey embellish the decor.

Located on a main thoroughfare, it garners alot of head-turning from passers-by. In fact, it’s one of those homes where you can’t help but turn around, stop the car, and venture out into the city’s 110° heat to take it all in at a little closer perspective.
